JA Solar performance guide

JA Solar is a tier-1 manufacturer and one of the largest panel producers in the world. Their panels are widely deployed in Australia, UK, and Europe and show competitive degradation rates in third-party tests. They're considered reliable budget-to-midrange panels.

JA Solar offers a 12-year product warranty and a 25-year linear performance warranty, guaranteeing no more than 2% degradation in year 1 and no more than 0.55% per year thereafter. The product warranty covers manufacturing defects, while the performance warranty covers output decline.

JA Solar PERC panels are well-suited to Australian climates. Their temperature coefficient of -0.35% per °C is average for PERC — meaning output drops predictably in high heat, but no more than comparable panels from other tier-1 manufacturers.

PERC panels capture light from one side only. JA Solar's bifacial DeepBlue series captures reflected light from the rear surface too, providing 5–25% extra yield depending on the mounting surface. Light-coloured gravel, concrete, or pale roofing materials maximise the bifacial benefit.

The most common causes are soiling (dust and bird droppings), shading from new vegetation, and inverter-side issues. JA Solar panels themselves are rarely the failure point in well-maintained systems under 10 years old — investigate the inverter and mounting before assuming a panel fault.

In dry climates like Queensland, South Australia, or Spain, cleaning every 6–12 months is worthwhile. Rain naturally cleans panels in wetter climates. Soiling losses of 5–15% are possible if panels haven't been cleaned for 2+ years in dusty or coastal environments.
