Warning signs to watch for

REC Alpha HJT panels use a different cell technology to standard PERC and are generally more resilient. However, early Alpha series panels (2019โ€“2020) had reports of edge delamination in high-humidity climates. Inspect panel edges annually for any discolouration or separation from the aluminium frame โ€” catching delamination early protects your warranty claim.

REC Solar โ€” frequently asked questions

What is REC HJT (heterojunction) technology?+

HJT cells combine monocrystalline silicon with a thin amorphous silicon layer, giving higher efficiency (22โ€“23%) and a lower temperature coefficient. This means REC Alpha panels perform better in hot climates than standard PERC panels โ€” losing less output as temperature rises.

How long do REC solar panels last?+

REC panels carry a 25-year product and performance warranty and are rated to last 25โ€“30 years. The HJT cell design has lower inherent degradation than PERC, with the Alpha series warranted to no more than 0.25% annual degradation.

Is REC Solar a reputable brand?+

REC Group is a Norwegian-founded manufacturer (now owned by TotalEnergies) with a strong reputation for quality. They consistently rank highly in independent degradation studies and have fewer warranty claims than average among premium panel manufacturers.

What is the REC TwinPeak design?+

TwinPeak is REC's half-cut cell design used in their standard range. Splitting cells in half reduces resistive losses and improves partial-shade performance compared to full-cell panels. The Alpha HJT series uses a different approach โ€” full HJT cells without the TwinPeak architecture.

Why is my REC Solar system underperforming?+

Check for shading first โ€” HJT cells can be sensitive to shading depending on inverter configuration. Also check your inverter; REC panels are frequently paired with SolarEdge or Enphase systems, and inverter issues are more commonly the cause of underperformance than the panels themselves.

Should I get my REC panels inspected?+

If the system is 5+ years old or if you've noticed any panel-to-panel performance variation in your monitoring data, a thermal inspection will confirm whether any early cell degradation or delamination has occurred. Early detection protects your options for warranty claims.
