SunPower Maxeon panels achieve 22–23% efficiency, among the highest in the residential market. Their Performance series (now manufactured by Enphase) ranges from 19–22%. The efficiency advantage means fewer panels are needed for the same output.

SunPower Maxeon panels are warranted to degrade no more than 0.25% per year — roughly half the industry standard of 0.5%. Independent studies confirm Maxeon cells outperform standard PERC panels in long-term output retention.

Most SunPower underperformance cases are linked to shading, soiling, or inverter issues rather than panel faults. Check your monitoring app for individual panel output — any panel significantly below its neighbours warrants a professional inspection.

If you're staying in the home long-term, the lower degradation rate makes the premium worthwhile. Studies show Maxeon systems can produce 8–12% more energy over 25 years than standard PERC at the same initial rating, which typically recovers the price difference.

Watch for any panel consistently reading 10%+ below adjacent panels, junction box discolouration, or any visible delamination at panel edges. These are uncommon but warrant a professional thermal inspection when observed.

The warranty remains valid if the original installer registered the system. SunPower went through bankruptcy restructuring in 2024 — Maxeon Solar now handles international warranty claims while SunPower US operations continue under new ownership. Document your system registration details as a precaution.
